Activity #3: Group Work: Compose and Present a 3-5 Minute Skit in Class
For our third project, I am going to divide the class into teams of four students per team. I will then ask each team of students to select a major landmark event in the history of Civil Rights, and then with the members of your group, compose a brief three to five minute skit dramatizing this event to be presented in class. Each team of students will first need to inform me of which event they intend to dramatize. These events could include Rosa Parks refusing to give up her seat on the bus, the African American students trying to attend their first day of school at integrated Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas, the Freedom Riders riding the busses to integrate interstate commerce in the early 1960's or even the coffee shop/luncheonette sit-ins of the early 1960's to protest segregation. These skits will give everyone an opportunity to demonstrate what you have learned and come to understand about the Civil Rights Movement in America.
