Dear Parents:
This Curriculum Web on the History of the Civil Rights Movement in the United States was designed to give your son and/or daughter a solid foundation of both information and understanding with respect to civil rights in America. I feel it is important that our young people understand the importance of the history behind the Civil Rights Movement in the United States, as our students will come to appreciate the sacrifices made by individuals such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, Jackie Robinson, and many others, which will give them a greater appreciation for the rights we all enjoy today, as well as an enhanced understanding of the rights we enjoy as codified in the Bill of Rights in the United States Constitution. It is my hope this Curriculum Web will inspire your daughter and/or son to find his or her special niche in society, to become involved in our community, no matter how great or small the involvement, and ultimately to participate as fully as possible in all of the aspects that American participatory democracy presents to us as citizens. I encourage all of our parents to engage in a journey of discovery within this Curriculum Web along with your teenage young adults, and I also encourage you to discuss with your children the information that is presented here in this Curriculum Web on the History of the Civil Rights Movement in the United States.
Respectfully submitted,
Matthew Donnelly
